Boston

Terrorists aim to strike fear and cause chaos in those that they attack but the truth is whoever may be responsible for the terror attacks at the Boston Marathon today has only done the opposite. Tonight we are one with Boston. You are in our prayers and we pray for justice to be done swiftly! #prayforBoston

Rest Here

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).

I don’t know about you but when I get overwhelmed in life I am usually the last one to know. It always seems to catch me off guard but the encouraging thing is that it never catches God by surprise. He knows every detail of our life, He knows when we rise, when we fall, when we cry and when we dream. He knows every hair on my head, or the lack thereof. He has a great plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11) and all of our days were written in His book before we ever lived them (Psalm 139:16).

rest_hereGod has a funny way of revealing the very things that have been weighing us down and as we bring it to Him in His Presence. It is by spending time in the Secret Place with Him that He releases His peace that washes over us giving us the opportunity to know true rest. It is in that divine exchange of our burdens for His, that we can enjoy His rest and experience true life. Jesus came to give us life and its an abundant life at that (John 10:10)!

So today, I encourage you to sit back in your time with God, let the worries and burdens be exposed. Be reminded that He knows the details of your life, that He is not taken by surprise. Then His love and peace will wash over you giving you rest in who He is.

The Line is Drawn

While in prayer the other day the Lord made a startling statement that has not left me. In fact through what I have seen lately it is all proving this word to be true! The Lord spoke simply saying, “While 2013 is going to be a year of tremendous revelation and blessing within My Body [the Church] it will be a season of making clear the distinction between the world and the Church. True Believers will walk in my favor and power and those who I do not know will be powerless against the lures and advances of the enemy. The line is drawn NOW.”

Now I am not here to strike up debate or anything else then to pass this amazing truth on to you. If you walk with the Lord, are led by the Spirit, then you will most likely get excited about this. If you find that fear is gripping you then I encourage you to go spend some time in the Secret Place (Matthew 6:6). The fact that the distinction where many Christians, especially in America, has been faded and blurred on the claim of relevance is being restored is joyous news. We were never told to be relevant to the culture around us…we are told that that we are “not of this world” (see John 15:18-20, 1 John 2:3-6, 15-17) Our culture should one of the Kingdom of God, if we are citizens of the Kingdom, not of the culture around us that blindly ignores God and anything with Him.

To clarify: Relevance is defined in my eyes as churches that ignore the Spirit for the approval of man because of the fear of man! For example, when I speak of relevance I talk of churches that will never give an altar call because it confronts people in their sin, churches that never press in in worship to let God have His way in the place to heal the broken, set free the captive but only says no we have 20 minutes of worship then the pastor…etc. No longer can/should the church use “relevance” as an excuse. Relevance is the devil’s greatest tool in the Church today; relevance communicates that what we have is not as good as what’s in the world when we are carriers of the Holy Spirit of God (see Ezekiel 36:26-27, 1 Corinthians 3:16)!

It’s time we let God restore the fear of God for then we will see His goodness for what it really is! For Scripture tells us, ”that the goodness of God leads you to repentance (Romans 2:4).” He is drawing the line…on what side will you stand?

Strike the Water by David Bowden + Elevation Worship

I had to share this awesome and encouraging word with you from David Bowden while at Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC this past Sunday!

Staying Put

Recently, due to my crazy schedule, I took a bit of a writing hiatus. It has been a refreshing week and a half; I realized that I had posted more recently than I had originally planned and my hiatus is somewhat taken on a different form. There has been one thing God has been drilling in me during this time and I feel released to share it with you.

As Christians we get to take part in the most privileged relationship in the entire universe, as we get to have a relationship with God. As in any natural relationship it is one that is formed and developed over time spent with the other and with God it is no different. This is not always the easiest thing to do because in our American culture it is easy to be distracted or find excuses for not spending time with God. For some, they do not see the importance for lack of truly knowing Him (see 1 John); while others have not submitted their entire heart to give Jesus first place in their lives. The majority, including myself, is placed in the latter category. How can we expect to know God if we never spend time with Him in His Presence or in His Word? Spending time with God or having what many call a personal devotion time is the way we really get to know Him intimately as He desires. This is what eternal life is all about, for John 17:3 says, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

While, admittedly, I have not been faithful in my time with God as He has been with me, but it is an area I am working hard on establishing in my life as a core non-negotiable (something I resolve to not compromise no matter what may come down the road of life; it will remains core fundamental of who I am). The one chapter that God has been burning in me on this has been John 8 and in particular within has been verse 31b, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.”  The word “abide” there is the Greek word “menō“  (Strong’s #G3306) which means, “[in reference to place] to remain, not to depart, to be held, [in reference to time] to continue to be, not to perish, to last to endure, [in reference to state or condition] to remain as one, not to become another or different.” Jesus told them “if you abide in My Word” meaning that is a place, in particular, the Secret Place (Psalm 91 & Matthew 6:6) which is the essence of personal devotion time. Abiding here also refers to time, as many times throughout the Gospel Jesus made statements of “he who endures to the end will be saved” and abide here means “to endure, not to perish.” The only way we can endure this life to the end and be saved is when we learn to abide in His Presence by abiding living and remaining in His Word.

Lastly, when we abide in His Word we will remain as one with the Lord (Ephesians 2:4-9). The key is that God has already made us one with Him but is our choice if we choose to abide and stay there. God desires that we all would be conformed or changed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29) and that is the end result of when we learn to live by abiding in His Word.

When it comes to God’s Word we can either read it or allow it to read us (Hebrews 4:12)! I have made the choice to stay put in His Word, I choose to abide…what about you?
