False Authority

@JennJohnson20 tweeted this today: “False authority destroys community and false humility sabotages destiny.

I don’t know about you but I have found this statement to be completely true for me, as I have been on both sides of this statement. While this statement can “preach” in a myriad of ways this ministered something different as I began to unpack this loaded statement and I wanted to pass it along.

As we grow and progress in what God has called us to in life the biggest temptation is to grab the reigns of our destiny and run with it but we can’t allow ourselves to do that. We must be humble and trust His timing and will. What I am seeing more and more in my life is that it takes a community to raise a man or woman of God. Isolated, we can not thrive in the Kingdom and that is why the author of Hebrews exhorted us to be careful to “not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25).” I assure you, my friend, Jesus return draws nearer every day! You see, when we are trying to do this on our own then we are making ourselves our own authority, which is false authority. It’s false because it goes against the laws of the Kingdom so you can’t say “I don’t need the Church because I got Jesus and read my bible.” You can read your Bible till you have it memorized but what will it profit you if you don’t obey what God commands us to do with it which is His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). You will stand before Jesus and realized just how much true life you missed out in not submitting to His Word to His Lordship for partial obedience is disobedience.

I said all that to say this…you are meant for community. You are meant to be an active member in the Body of Christ and you were never meant to do this alone for you are not alone. Don’t set yourself up as the authority in your life and miss out on the life that God has for you, your family, your city, your nation and the world. You are more important than you could ever realize and God desires for you to know Him not for His good but for yours. God wants you and we need you. He loves you and we love you so don’t forsake community with believers and followers of Jesus Christ.
