The other night went I went to the Emergency Room for my fractured wrist I got an interesting label slapped on me in the form of a bright yellow bracelet that said in big bold letters: Fall Risk.
It took me a few minutes to realize they put this on me but when I saw it at first, I was insulted. Then I just had to laugh at it but later I began seeing a simple but powerful truth in it. As with anything I look for lessons I can learn in everything I face and even in this bracelet I was not disappointed.
What hit me was that this label fits the Body of Christ in these days. As more and more erroneous teachings are influencing believers many are in danger of falling away from the faith (Matthew 24:10). We were warned of this in 2Timothy 3 and warned of these misleading teachers in 2Peter 2.
There are many reasons to say this but chief among them are the openness or gullibility for people to believe anything someone with a mic and a stage tells them. In their hunger for truth people will accept anything that sounds pleasing. You see, many people go to church weekly and think they are being taught the Word of God but few go back to their Bibles and check it out for themselves.
Unfortunately, many don’t even bring their Bible to church with them anymore; or take notes during service; it is this group, if they are not careful, run the risk of falling away from the faith. A good rule that has been drilled into me by my pastors, thankfully, is that just as you would never go to math class without your math book why go to church without your Bible? It is so crucial in these days to guard against deception and do everything it takes to grow and protect yourself in your faith.
There is so much to this topic with many rabbit trails to take but I encourage you to make a habit out of taking notes at church and checking out what people tell you about the Bible. In doing so you will not be so gullible or open to deception to the many erroneous teachings out there. You will not be in the category of being a fall risk in the area of your faith.
