Right of Way

If you have ever been to Fayetteville or any growing metropolitan area, you probably learned real quick people drive like crazy. Often times the rules of the road are the last thing observed so you have to drive the best you can in defense mode always ready for the worst. I’m not saying this to bash on my city…I love Fayetteville but sometimes the people are just nuts on the road! This morning I had to stop at a gas station by a friends house and fill up but as I was leaving (I had the right of way) this one driver just sped past me to get back on the road and had I paid any less attention he would’ve t-boned me and my car. I hit my brakes and let him go but on the way home it got me thinking about the right of way…How many times have I, in my own relationship with God, just ignored the right of way with Him?

Just as the other driver ignored the rules of the road, probably in a rush to get somewhere and unaware of the risk involved in his decision I wonder how much I have done the same to God. As a Christian I  follow the commandments of Jesus when He said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me (Luke 9:23).”

Often times the things that I thought was God in the past, whether it be opportunities or relationships, it often was not God’s will and I pushed ahead for my own selfish reasons. So many times we can think we have the right to just go ahead and do as we see fit without considering the plans that God has for us. I don’t know about you but in my life I always paid the price for those mistakes of not waiting on God. I do my best to remember that I was brought at a price (1 Cor 6:20) and so it’s NOT my place to just dive in and not consider His will. I am to yield what I may think is good to find His perfect will in every area of my life. I made and make the choice daily to give God the right of way in my life I yield to Him. What about you?
